About City College Plymouth

City College Plymouth is a leading technical and vocational education provider in the South West and one of only five colleges nationally awarded Defence Technical Excellence College (DTEC) status. As a national hub of excellence supported by government investment, we equip students, apprentices, and the regional workforce with future-ready skills across Computing, Cyber Security, AI, and Advanced Engineering. Working in close partnership with industry leaders, we deliver high-quality FE and HE programmes designed to drive technological innovation, meet national defence priorities, and bridge the digital skills gap.

At City College Plymouth, we integrate AI directly into our curriculum and practical training environments to prepare the regional workforce for an AI-driven future. Key initiatives include:

1. Curriculum & Qualifications: Launching new Level 4 AI and Automation Practitioner programmes, alongside integrating Machine Learning, Bio-Inspired Computing, and Data Analysis for Cyber Security into our FE and HE pathways (up to BSc Applied Computer Science & Cyber Security).

2. Applied Cyber Security & Practical AI Simulations: Utilising AI-driven threat modelling, offensive/defensive security scenarios, and live interactive simulations such as real-time stock market attack models and ethical hacking and penetration testing to provide hands-on experience with AI in defence and risk management.

3. National Impact via DTEC Status: As a Defence Technical Excellence College, we embed modern automation and digital literacy across our training pathways. This directly benefits regional employers, defence partners, and local students by bridging the digital skills gap, driving economic growth, and building high-level technical capability in Plymouth and the South West.

4. Ai unit apprenticeship delivery.
