About the Ministry of Defence

The MOD is sewn into the South West’s ecosystem and is at the forefront of innovative tech and AI. It operates HMNB Devonport — just around the corner from Market Hall — which is the largest operational naval base in Western Europe. The MOD is also a key part of Team Plymouth.

Team Plymouth marks a historic moment for our city, the peninsula and the wider South West. It brings together the MOD with Plymouth City Council, Babcock, universities, colleges and a growing network of partners. Together, we are creating opportunity, driving innovation and delivering lasting prosperity for our communities.

Through the Defence Industrial Strategy and the Defence Growth Deal, Plymouth has been selected as one of the first locations to benefit from significant investment. This is about more than defence. It is about creating high-skilled jobs, supporting industry, modernising infrastructure, building new homes and fostering economic growth that reaches every part of the city and the wider region.
